Discover the Antwerp Kempen area

The Kempen area extends over the north-east of Belgium and the south-east of the Dutch province North Brabant. The Flemish kempenland occupies most of the Belgian provinces Antwerp, Limburg and the extreme north of Vlaams-Brabant. You can distinguish three different areas in the Kempen area:

-               the Noorderkempen

-               the Turnhoutsekempen

-               the Antwerpse Voorkempen (province of Antwerp)

The Antwerpse Voorkempen is the area between the urban agglomeration of the city of Antwerp and the actual Kempen. It is, among other things, an extended part of the city, but also a fruit-, vegetable- and horticultural region. It is ideal holiday destination if you love nature. You will find meadows, forests, sandy beaches and winding rivers.

Hiking

Antwerp Kempen is the right spot for the hiking lover. The region has up to ten excellent walking networks. You can walk for example the Kempense lakes route. As the name suggests, this is a very water-rich landscape. When the excavation of the area began in the second half of the 19^th century, a patchwork of lakes, puddles and ponds was created. Take your time to stroll around through this beautiful area.

Another walking route is the Kempense Heuvelrug. This area covers as many as 315km of hiking paths! This area is characterized by the river ‘de Kleine Nete’, a tributary of the Nete river, numerous small water courses surrounded by agricultural areas, sand dunes, green pine forests and of course the Kempense Heuvelrug.

The Kempense Hoven offers 480 kilometers of hiking fun. Tis network is located in the heart of the Antwerp Kempen and connects the most beautiful hiking paths with each other. During your walk you will come across beautiful castles, villas and forts. Nature constantly changes along the way, you will pass by old wells besides the canal, the pristine ant-tank ditch, patches of moorland and by the Zoerselbos.
