Hiking in Twente

Hiking is quite a big phenomenon in Twente. There is a hiking network with a total length of up to 3000 km that offers challenges for each type of hiker. You can make fantastic walks along hedgerows and Saxon farms. There is a lot of variety in landscapes.

Routes and watermills

The hiking routes in Twente consists of about 423 walking routes, from short walks to multi-day tours. The route system works with 1185 selecting points. You can make your route as long or as short as you like due to these selecting points. The routes run along attractions such as old water mills, a yacht lust, the Open air museum and many occasions where you can sit down for a drink or a snack.

Estates and gardens

Stroll around on the Beerninkholt estate, this area is known for the largest variation in plant species of the Netherlands. Or go to the Twickel Castle, with about 4000 acres of rolling farmland, forests and streams. You can walk through four centuries of garden architecture in the park of estate Warmelo. French and English styles alternate effortlessly.
